ABOUT

(THAT'S THE SLEEVE NOTES TO YOU AND I).

Cover Versions are the work of illustrator Ben O’Brien, a lifelong music obsessive who grew up sketching record label logos in the margins of his school books and flicking through record racks just to stare at the sleeves.

Album art has always been more than packaging. It’s identity, memory and culture; it's the image burned into your brain when you hear the needle drop. In the streaming age that world has shrunk to a thumbnail. Cover Versions brings it back, treating each illustration like a pressing: big, square, tactile, and made to be collected.

Ben’s covers aren’t copies, they’re reimaginings. Graphic tributes to the music that shaped him and every other record collector, re-drawn for the people who still care about sleeves as much as songs. Every print is a nod to crate-digging, fan culture, and the lost art of the 12".

Cover Versions are for anyone who still stops to study the artwork. For the collectors, the obsessives, the sleeve freaks.

Cover versions came to life in 2020 and have adorned Rega Turntables and Tim Burgess slipmats, they appear in the Sparks' feature length documentary 'The Sparks Brothers' and have been used by Blondie and The Cure for official emojis. We have so far taken the cover versions record store to kendal calling festival and Tim Burgess' Manchester Merch Market, with events and products to come.
